Anja Thomas is Associate Professor at the University of Lille, member of the political science research lab CERAPS (Centre d'études et de recherches administratives, politiques et sociales) and Visiting Fellow at the European University Institute in Florence. Anja holds a Franco-German PhD from the University of Cologne and Sciences Po Paris. In the past, Anja was Max Weber Fellow at the European University Institute and Oxpo Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Oxford’s Nuffield College.
Anja studies the transformation of representative democracy in Europe, in particular in the context of European integration and emerging transversal challenges such as populism. Her PhD thesis on the paradoxical divergence of parliamentary participation in European Affairs in France and Germany since 1979 received the Pierre Pflimlin Award by the European Parliament’s Research Service and Sciences Po Strasbourg. It was published by the German academic publishing house NOMOS. Anja is member of the coordinating team of the French Groupe de recherche sur l’Union européenne (GrUE - https://grue.hypotheses.org/).
Anja teaches the Fundamentals of Scientific Work within the Executive Master in EU Studies programme.
